HISTORY: Undergrowth, yet another towering line of Season Three blunders waltzes his way from beneath the grounds of Amity Park, thoroughly peeved at the destruction of his “children” (nature, duh) after having seen Vlad’s construction project at work. Fed up, Undergrowth quickly takes over Amity Park, subduing Danny Phantom, and mind wiping everyone else as his slave, including Sam who serves as his 2nd-in-command and “mother” to his growing army of plant “babies”.
Danny barely managed to escape to the Ghost Zone due to his constant chills, finally culminating in ice powers having been stored inside for a long period of time, only now being unleashed in full. With Frostbite’s guidance, Danny learns the trick of the trade on mastering said powers (too quickly, in my opinion) before heading back to Amity Park to deliver some much needed ass kickery to the ever growing Undergrowth (more literally then one). Plant is no match for ice and a Ecto-Ice bomb to the chest sends Undergrowth writhing in pain and reduced to a small shrub that Tucker easily lawn mows.
He makes a small appearance as a “Wanted” poster in “Boxed Up Fury”, then as the many ghosts stopping an asteroid from crashing to Earth in “Phantom Planet”.
PERSONALITY: What personality? Aside from getting pretty pissed off easily, Undergrowth just wants to take over the Earth like nearly every other Season Three baddies…this time with planets. Oooh, threatening. He also seems to have some family issues--if Sam is his “daughter”, then why is she playing the mommy role to all his plants? Undergrowth has some reverse…Oedipus complex?
NEO YI’s OPINION: I think it’s pretty safe to declare the same opinion I have on nearly all the Season Three cast: They have no personality, they’re boring, and they suck. Undergrowth is no exception. I can say him taking over Amity Park that quickly is an awesome display of how powerful he is, but so many ghosts have tried to take over the damn planet at this point for me to care. On the plus side, he’s voiced by Mark Hammill, clearly the best Joker ever.
